Our brains are fascinating!
They enable us to navigate the complexity of day-to-day life and make thousands of decisions (both conscious and unconscious) each day. To do this, our brain uses ‘mental shortcuts’ to sift through the avalanche of stimuli our brain encounters in life - these are cognitive biases.

While these biases aren’t necessarily bad, they can lead to ‘bad decisions’. This is when the Elephant part of the brain (System 1) makes a default, automatic decision without us being aware of it.
